Enterprise Consultant
I have been consulting on workforce psychology since 1993 and incorporating clinical assessments since 2003. The hallmark of my current organizational consulting style is the integration of clinical, psychological, and managerial components in pursuit of optimizing the human element across the entire enterprise. I hold a doctoral degree in natural heath sciences from Bastyr University, master's degrees in nursing, business administration, and education from Western Governors University, and bachelor's degrees in psychology and nursing from the University of Central Florida. ND degree incorporated counseling and behavioral medicine, as well as recognizing applied cognitive patterns in various medicinal modalities. MSN thesis proposed and evaluated interventions designed to decrease workplace hostility. MBA capstone involved practical and psychological applications of money as a protocol for value and currency based on consumer confidence and MED capstone supported first-year resident physicians in developing research skills.
My cumulative experience and grounding in industrial & organizational psychology provide a foundation in organizational development, operational policy, corporate dynamics, utilization review, and strategic planning. Clinical expertise and analytical psychology add human psychology in the workplace, new technologies response analyses, experimental design and ethics, and cultural awareness.
For over two decades, IO Nurse has affected change through a Strategic Business Partner model coined "embedded consultant." This differs from "internal consultant" in that mid-level operational or entry-level executive roles are typically assumed within an organization for the purposes of mapping and managing change through quality process improvement initiatives. These are added-value activities that would ordinarily be outside the scope of the assumed role. By taking this approach, proponents and antagonists to any given initiative or implementation can be identified laterally, in real time, and strategies for change adjusted according to immediate acceptance needs, as well as the long term goals of the organization. This strategy augments change acceptance at a fraction of the cost of hiring an external consultant, while leveraging more information than is typically available to an internal consultant, optimizing the organization's return on investment.
The embedded consultant methodology was developed as an innovative solution to a complex change initiative with a high risk for recurring failure. By immersing myself in an operational role, I am able to directly observe key elements of process, as well as stakeholders, in order to fluidly navigate threats, identify obstacles, align with early-adopters, and implement the initiative successfully. I have used this methodology multiple times to add value beyond the services of any contracted project, administrative, or management role. I continue to leverage my expertise in personnel and social systems optimization to add value in the corporate arena, specializing in high-profile or complex and mission critical roles for which failure is not an option.
A background incorporating psychology, nursing, business administration, education, and behavioral medicine is a diverse portfolio based on a systems science approach to corporate health and organizational development needs. Psychology is specific to behavioral and human organizational principles while nursing focuses on leadership, process, critical inquiry, and diagnostic response. Business administration incorporates strategic analysis, production, human capital management, and economics, as well as a working knowledge of supply chain, service line, and financial systems. Educational design strategies support adult learning and change management initiatives. And natural and behavioral medicine, while diagnostic and therapeutic in nature, contributes expertise in assessment, risk mitigation, compliance, and informational security needs. Furthermore, clinical evaluation is often beneficial when facilitating meaningful change.
